about

refined sisterhood

Our sisterhood is dope (so we’ve been told) because it’s custom-made by God and normalizes the unconventional, as two women whose first sons are 15 months apart and share the same father. It’s unnatural and rare, but it does exist; a glimpse of God’s unconditional love.

God has done and is still doing so much pruning, perfecting, and polishing of us through this bond. We are works in progress—always being refined by Him.

Refined Sisterhood is about doing life together, and allowing another person to help you grow into who God is calling you to be. It’s the safe space of accountability to face your ugly truths with grace. There’s nothing superficial about it. It’s an overwhelming reminder of His favor and love, and we cannot take credit for it.

As we share the different layers of our imperfect experiences, relationships, and faith, we hope that Refined Sisterhood would prompt you to recognize how dope God is in your life too, joining us in giving Him praise.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Hi. Jessica is what my parents named me and is the name I grew to love. I have a mini male version of me running around with my face. I’m the sibling who admires the 3 that came before me but also loves to take my own path, knowing I can always return home. Helping others in the form of teaching, sharing, and encouragement is my heart's true passion.

My family grounds me and my faith molds me.

And I’m Joane. Say it in Haitian Kreyòl -- j sound as in “beige,” long o, ahn (ZHō-Ahn). I am a lover of all things good: good food, good company, good times, and God. I’m legally responsible for four little people (well…one isn’t little anymore) and I’ve made a lifetime commitment to my Husbae; but my family is much bigger than that and extends beyond blood and vows.

Family energizes me, humor heals me, and faith drives me.
